The Research, Economics & Evaluation Team leads and undertakes economic analysis, appraisal, and evaluation of complex and sensitive issues to bring evidence, data, and economics into transport intervention decisions.
Our team provides strategic and operational advice to the Ministry around economics, evaluation, and research. Our goal is to enable delivery of excellent evidence-based policies, and continuously improve the organisation-wide decisions through insights derived from the latest evidence. We achieve this by bringing evidence to policy and practice.
Some of the work you will be involved in include:
- Assisting development, assessment and evaluation of strategies or initiatives.
- Undertaking research and analysis of complex and sensitive issues to bring evidence and insights to better understand sector performance.
- Facilitating the introduction of innovative and strategic monitoring and evaluation tools to enable data collection and analysis of the overall value for money from interventions.
- Automating, where possible, the update and maintenance of key transport monitoring databases (such as Transport Outcomes Framework and Government Policy Statement on Land Transport Investment dashboards) to support the monitoring and evaluation of interventions.
- Synthesising and generating evidence for the modelling, monitoring and evaluation of a wide range of policy interventions, such as those contributing to the Emissions Reduction Plan and Government Policy Statement on Land Transport, to improve the understanding of social, environmental and economic impacts.
- Generating intelligence that strengthens the effectiveness and efficiency of advice from the Ministry and to the wider transport sector through making the information more accessible.
- Strong background in data science, data preparation, data management and research
- Proven work experience in applying data software programmes e.g. R, SQL and Python
- Experience in the use and development of performance metrics and evaluation frameworks, strategy and plans
- Experience in building high-quality stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
The salary range for the role is $100,976 - $120,000. The salary offered will be based on skills and experience.
